Class Description:  This course will introduce students to the basics of 16th-century counterpoint and the compositional styles connected to it. Compositional craft will be developed by following technical practices that attempt to encapsulate the essence of contrapuntal music and investigating related musical case studies. Upon completion of the course, students should have the ability to create characteristics melodies and harmonies of the renaissance style and beyond. The course best fits students with a strong familiarity of music notation and fundamental music concepts.
