Class Description: This course will survey the history of American Music from the colonial days to the 21st century. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the representative musical genres, and the cultural contexts which helped shape the development of American music. Students will be asked to critically engage the craft of music as an analytical thinker and listener and to communicate effectively about the development of music in the New World.
