Times (Pacific Time):

12:00pm - 12:50pm - Karlen Kochar

Class Description:

Advanced Chemistry introduces students to the concepts and methods of general chemistry. There will be a focus on the structure and properties of matter, chemical reactions and rates of reactions, thermodynamics and equilibrium. A brief overview of organic and biological molecules will close out this survey. There will be a moderate number of labs.

Major course emphases include:

  • An introduction to the periodic table
  • Stoichiometry
  • Chemical Reactions
  • Chemical Bonding
  • Kinetics and Equilibrium
  • Entropy and Free Energy
  • Electrochemistry

The AP Option ($890 tuition) will add a Friday class session each week and will have an extensive emphasis on both content and lab work. At least 12 experiments will be conducted, along with additional inquiry-guided labs.In addition to the topics in Advanced Chemistry there will be an emphasis on:

  • Using models, representations and mathematics to communicate       scientific phenomena and to solve problems
  • Engaging in planning and implementing data collection
  • Performing data analysis and evaluation of evidence
  • Connecting ideas across multiple disciplines

Upon completing advanced chemistry with AP practice, students will be prepared for the AP Chemistry exam.
