Course Description:  Money intersects nearly every aspect of life and is thus crucial for fulfilling the dominion mandate. Indeed, Jesus spoke about money more than heaven and hell combined. Nevertheless, it is a topic that is seldom discussed in schools, churches, and even families. In this course, we will discuss some of the fundamental questions about money and challenge some common assumptions: What is money? Why do we need it? What makes something valuable? Why do prices keep rising, making it harder and harder to save money for retirement, buy a home, or buy groceries? What is inflation and what causes it? What does the Bible say about money and how we should steward it? What problems in society are caused when broken money undergirds the whole system? Is money itself moral, immoral, or amoral?

We will explore the ways in which our current monetary system is broken, and how bitcoin has the potential to redeem many of its ills. Specifically, we will consider the superior monetary properties of bitcoin, how it more closely aligns with both Austrian economics and Biblical principles, and how it exists to counter the harmful effects of inflation, monetary debasement (i.e., silent theft), government overreach, and “unequal weights” in society. The inevitable transition to sound money is already underway, but it will take time, and it begins with such education.
