Class Description: Middle Schoolers will gain a firm footing in the mechanics of English grammar and usage as well as writing composition. The class will briefly review parts of speech, parts of the sentence, the basics of sentence diagramming, phrases, and clauses. Students look more extensively at usage concepts; such as subject - verb agreement and the correct usage of pronouns and modifiers. Students will review basic writing structures and explore persuasive essay, and more.
Students going into English 8 are expected to know, identify, and create examples of the concepts listed HERE (near the bottom of our FAQ page).

This is a junior-high course. If taken in high school, this class will count as an elective.

Mtg. Days: Mon., Tues., Wed., & Thur (4 days each week)

Warriner's English Grammar and Composition, Second Course, ISBN: 9780153119026

We use the 1977 edition, which is no longer in print. You must buy it USED online (it is very important to search using the ISBN number provided here, as there are many editions). It's often identified as"Grade 9," but we use it for English 8.
