Class Description: This course is designed for 7th-8th grade students as an introduction to the development of Western music from a historical perspective. Beginning with early church music and the Gregorian chant, this course will follow Western music through major musical time periods, major composers and their contributions to musical literature, major musical genres, as well as an introduction to musical literacy. The goal of this course is to equip students to understand the musical heritage of Western Christendom, to recognize a wide variety of musical works, genres, and epochs, and to develop a taste for timeless musical works.
Credits: 1 (Elective); Non-honors
Prerequisite: Intended for 7th & 8th graders
Mtg. Days: Mondays & Wednesdays (2 days each week)
