Class Description:  This course is a class for students to learn the seven Elements of Art (line, shape, color, value, form, space, and texture). Students will use many techniques (drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage, etc.) to gain a general understanding and appreciation of art. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with various media in this class.

 

Credits: 1 (Elective), Non-honors

Prerequisite: Students must be in high school

Mtg. Days:  Mon., Tues., Wed., & Thur (4 days each week)

    Required Materials:

    • 1 Prismacolor ebony pencil 
    • 1 white eraser 
    • Oil pastel set 
    • Prismacolor color pencil set 
    • Liquitex acrylic paint set (8 basic colors at least) 
    • 4 stretched and gessoed (white painted) canvases (9 X 12”) 
    • Acrylic Brush set with various sizes (must have some very small sizes for detail work)
    • Linocut tool with various sized tips 
    • 2 Speedy-cut Easy blocks 4 x 6” 
    • Block Printing Ink (water-soluble) 
    • Roller
    • 1 Mixed Media drawing pad 11x 14” 
    • 1 Mixed Media Sketchbook approx. 8 x 10 “ or 9 x 12” 
    • Air-dry clay (2.5lb) 
    • 1 Pencil sharpener 
    • White glue 
    • Foam trays (meat/veggie trays)
    • Cardboard 
    • Masking tape 
    • Spray bottle for water 
    • Old magazines/newspaper 
    • Shoebox 
    • Drawing board (optional) 
    • Palette (optional) 
    • Easel (optional) 

    Note: Please buy brand-specific items if the brand is mentioned (for example,” Prismacolor”). Otherwise whatever brand you would like to buy is fine. Some materials are optional and not necessary to take the class. Feel free to buy higher-quality products if you prefer.
